The Rockford Watch Company, located 93 miles from Chicago on the Rock River, began operation in 1873 using equipment purchased from the Cornell Watch Company. Rockford watches were quite popular with railroad men, as three railroads went through Rockford and the company advertised heavily to them. The company had financial difficulties in 1896, and after reorganization the name was changed to Rockford Watch Co. Ltd. They finally closed their doors in 1915. Rockford was a company that produced a relatively small number of good-quality watches during a short time period. As such they are quite collectible. Rockford worked hard to make some of the most beautiful movements crafted among American pocket watch makers. Just look at the artistic fish-scale pattern damaskeen found on this handsome c.1907 Rockford Winnebago. The original double sunk full dial is in very good condition with one small hairline crack at 8 o'clock and the black Arabic markers are as dark as the day they were applied. The beveled edge glass crystal is clear and mostly scratch-free. The lever set movement is marked "Adjusted 5 Positions, 17 Jewels, Double Roller, Winnebago" and stamped with serial No.726364. The plates and hardware are immaculate. It winds smooth, runs strong, and keeps accurate time, yet we cannot offer a guarantee on its future performance. The "No Monogram" case is a masculine 10K Gold Filled Keystone screw back and bezel in very good condition. There is one small ding on the back cover. The covers screw on and off easily and seal up tight. We do not receive many Rockford's, especially in this fine condition and when we do they tend not to last very long! 65.0dwt loc-oc
