The PAM 196 is now discontinued, made in limited production for G, H and I series features high polished tachymeter bezel and crown protector with bold luminescent Arabic number hour markers. The PAM 196 was discontinued in 2007 for I series and at that same time, Panerai introduced the PAM 250 Daylight chronograph with black dial which ended up replacing the PAM 196 for the J series. The PAM 250 has different dial aesthetics along with a more casual look distinguished by its all brushed, matte satin finished look. The bezel and crown protector on PAM250 is brushed/matte satin finished versus PAM196 where bezel and crown protector are high polished/shiny finish. This gives the PAM 196 a cool tu-tone contrasting matte/satin brushed and polished look. The PAM 250 with its all matte/brushed finish takes on a decidedly more casual or sporty look though i still love the watch. The brushed look of the PAM 250 lends itself to looking great in a casual environment in blue jeans, shorts, or khakis. The PAM 196 with its eye popping polished bezel and crown protector seems to be easier to dress up in a suit or tuxedo and looks just as great with jeans or shorts, Prada driving mocs or Chuck Taylor All Stars. The PAM196 seems to more easily adapt to its surroundings than the PAM250 and as a discontinued watch, is destined to only appreciate in value as it becomes harder to find, more collectible and more sought after.
