Antique Victorian Button Necklace - Victorian Rose Necklace - Silver Gold Drop Crystal - Edwardian Elegance Handmade by Compass Rose Design This sparkling necklace is made with a genuine antique button with open brass work and a mirror background. The necklace is accented with a shimmering Swarovski crystal bead that sparkles with silver and gold. MEASUREMENTS & MATERIALS: * The antiqued brass chain measures about 18" (16" plus an extender) * The button measure approximately 3/4", and the pendant is just over 1.25" wide. * All items come in a gift box. HISTORY OF THE DESIGN Jewelry of the early Victorian era reflected the romantic notions of the young queen’s courtship and marriage. Love tokens, travel charms and other symbol-laden, sentiment-infused jewelry was popular from 1830 to the turn of the century. Production methods in the 1800s popularized steel picture buttons, used on women and children’s clothing from the 1860s into the Edwardian era. Victorian pictures buttons, often with multiple layers, featured detailed botanical designs and scenes from Classical art and European fairytales.
