This is the slightly larger version of my Bee on Time necklace. This handmade Steampunk necklace pendant has an elegant but industrial pendant made from a vintage brass pocket watch movement set on an elegant antiqued brass filigree pendant. The watch movement has detailed etching and exposed gears and real ruby bearings and is adorned with a silver Victorian revival style honey bee with delightful detailing- both sophisticated and industrial all at once! This watch will not tell you the time, as it is more than 50 years old and is now in the upcycled phase of its life. Elegant and sophisticated with an edge! Steampunk watch movement gear necklace featuring a vintage Elgin watch movement with beautiful tooling and craftsmanship. This watch movement is from 1930-1950 and is adorned with a golden Victorian revival style honey bee with delightful detailing - Bee on Time :) The chain measures approximately 20" and the pendant is just over 1 3/4" round. The fourth photo shows an assortment of the types of watches I work with, as well as the watches in context of late Victorian photos of both men and women with pocket watch chains. ABOUT THE DESIGN The Victorian era was a bridge between old traditions and new technologies. At the 1851 Great Exhibition in London, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert received the first mechanical keyless wind watches, making pocket watches and watch fobs popular for both men and women until the mid 20th century. While pocket watches had been worn for more than a century, wrist watches were introduced around 1900, called "wristlets" were introduced, in part because of the development of a more affordable jewel bearings production process, which made smaller, more accurate watches possible. Assumed to be a passing fad, wrist watches caught on and were most popular in the 1920s and 1930s, which is why most of the watches I work with are Art Deco from this period. An emblem of a past era of craftsmanship, these mechanical watches have real or synthetic jewel bearings, originally made with ruby, garnet, diamond, and sapphire. Many watches have the name of the watch maker, intricate tooling or design work, seen only when the watch was repaired, cleaned, and maintained. Celebrate analog! All items come in a gift box.
