Continuing the line of andapos;auto-quartzandapos; timepieces and riding the wave of success of Stuhrling Originalandapos;s first auto-quartzand#44; the Piattino di Voloand#44; is the new Piattino Quadrato.Piattino di Volo means flying saucer and in keeping true to its andapos;bloodlinesand#44;andapos; the new edition Quadrato looks like something from another galaxy! This elegant Stuhrling Original gentlemanandapos;s self-winding mechanical and quartz movement dual time-zone timepiece features a swank vertically striped embossed dial with a concentric circle design on the sub-dial for the second time zone. The true charm of the Quadrato is the second time zone complication at the eight oandapos;clock position. Looking like a satellite orbiting its masterand#44; the sub-dial is actually controlled by its own separate quartz movement with its own crown while the main dial boasts a classic three-hand display powered by a 23-jewel self-winding mechanical movement. The combination of a mechanical automatic movement and a quartz movement in one timepiece is something akin to something from a different world. You just donandapos;t see it everyday!The Piattino Quadrato looks like a space ship with its massive 45 millimeter (diameter from 10 to 4) cushion-shaped case with its asymmetrically designed wide bezel. With a narrow side on the top and right and wider on the left and bottomand#44; this curious bezel flaunts embossed hour markers in the form of Roman numerals and batons which continue on the dial inside with individually applied indices; just another peculiarity for the Quadrato which is seemingly from out of this world! As unorthodox as the arrangement of the hour markers on the dial and unusual bezel may beandapos;.it is the juxtaposition of its queer layout against the refined elegance of the brushed satin finish adjacent to the mirror high polish finish on the beveled edge of the bezel!The casing is constructed like a vessel made for space travel too! Milled from solid 316L surgical stainless steel and flaunting a custom shaped Krysterna crystaland#44; there is little about this watch that is of this world. Through the screw-down exhibition case-backand#44; you can see the power source of the Quadrato decorated magnificently with C?tes de Geneveand#44; accented by blued steel screwsand#44; and the Damier finished rotor with the Stuhrling signature logo. On the underbelly there is a circular placement marker with the Stuhrling Original insignia emblazoned in the center representing the exact spot within the interior of the case where a second movement residesand#44; a premium Swiss quartz movement to track the time in a second time zone. Water resistance to 50 metersand#44; the Piattino Quadrato is mounted on an amply padded 22-milllimeter wide genuine French leather strap with a water-repellant liner and finished with extra-terrestrial push-button dual deployant clasp.
